Feasibility study – N50 Kampen

Werkzaamheden plaatsing barriers N50 Kampen

The project

The N50 between the Kampen and Kampen Zuid junctions was perceived as unsafe because there was only one lane in each direction and no physical separation between the lanes. The changing road scene contributes to an increased risk of traffic accidents. The N50 will be widened to two lanes in each direction to improve road safety and traffic flow. In collaboration with the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management, Iv has developed an Integral Integrated Design (IID), which includes environmental measures, traffic safety measures and mitigation measures.

The challenge

Iv played a crucial role in the project, moving between functional requirements and technical development. The functional design of the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management formed the starting point, which was then developed into an integrated design. Essential aspects such as traffic safety and noise led to adjustments in the final integral integrated design. The challenge was to respond quickly and appropriately to new findings and scope changes during the project. Despite the tight deadlines and the project size, Iv, in collaboration with the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management and TAUW (responsible for the feasibility study), delivered the project on schedule.

The impact

The widening of the N50 will significantly improve road safety and traffic flow. Thanks to the integral integrated design, all critical aspects, such as environmental and road safety considerations, have been thoroughly explored and integrated into the plan.
