Safe and Sustainable Phase 3

The project

Safe and Sustainable Phase 3 focuses on the reconstruction of the N223 from the Noord-Lierweg to the A4 towards Delft. The aim is to make this vital route both safer and more sustainable, paying particular attention to the area’s scenic value.

The challenge

The main challenge in this project is to fit the road reconstruction into an area with a characteristic landscape. The municipality of Midden-Delfland is keen to preserve and highlight this unique environment. It aims to achieve a balance between road safety requirements and the desire to preserve and enhance the characteristic landscape of Midden-Delfland. Therefore, an essential part of the design process is the intensive involvement of various parties and stakeholders to arrive at a widely supported solution, requiring careful planning and coordination to meet all requirements and expectations.

The impact

Once completed, the ‘Safe and Sustainable Phase 3’ project will positively impact both road safety and the natural and scenic value of the area. Not only will the N223 be a safer route for motorists, but the road will also blend seamlessly into the landscape of Midden-Delfland. The project illustrates how modern infrastructure can be developed with respect for the natural environment.
