Remote measurement in a nuclear environment

The project

For the High Flux Reactor, a nuclear facility used for the production of medical isotopes, client Kalmar Iv requested a solution for inspecting a circular rail structure located high up in the dome of the reactor hall. This rail plays a crucial role in the transportation of materials and is situated in an area that is not directly accessible.

The challenge

Manual inspection was not an option due to limited accessibility and strict safety regulations. The rail is positioned at a considerable height, is only partially physically supported, and is located in a space that cannot be entered without significant precautions. The inspection therefore had to be carried out entirely remotely.

The impact

Iv deployed its self-developed, motorised inspection trolley, which autonomously travels along the rail. This compact system is equipped with powered wheels, lateral guides, a camera, measuring instruments, and powerful magnets to keep the trolley securely in place. As a result, inspections can now be carried out remotely in a safe, accurate, and efficient manner.
