NTA 8790 assessment – Sportboulevard, Dordrecht

Commissioned by the municipality of Dordrecht, Iv assessed the structural safety of the ice rink at the Sportboulevard in Dordrecht in accordance with NTA 8790. The Sportboulevard is a large sports complex comprising several interconnected buildings, including a sports hall, swimming pools, hospitality facilities, offices, and a large, covered ice rink. This ice rink is used for sporting events and can accommodate approximately 5,000 people on and around the rink. Iv conducted technical inspections and examined the construction dossier for the key structural components.

Due to its high visitor capacity, the ice rink falls under Consequence Class CC3 and phase 1 of the statutory structural safety assessment according to NTA 8790. The building consists of a steel structure with steel trusses, roof panels, and purlins. The ground floor and ice rink slabs are made of in-situ concrete and system flooring, while the stands and the oval skating track on the first floor are made of precast concrete. Iv conducted technical inspections and examined the construction dossier for the main structural elements.

Iv’s thorough and considered approach delivered a reliable and comprehensive overview of the ice rink’s structural safety in a short timeframe. The findings have been recorded in a report to serve as substantiation for the competent authority. In this way, Iv supports the municipality of Dordrecht in safeguarding the structural safety of this intensively used sports complex, thereby making a valuable contribution to the societal importance of safe public buildings.
