NTA 8790 assessment – Schouwburg Kunstmin, Dordrecht

Commissioned by the municipality of Dordrecht, Iv carried out an assessment of the structural safety of Schouwburg Kunstmin in accordance with NTA 8790. This national heritage site in neo-Renaissance style dates back to 1864 and has been municipally owned since 1913. The building houses a large theatre hall, a multifunctional room and a theatre café. Following an extensive renovation in 2012, Kunstmin now comprises a blend of historical and modern structural elements. Because the building was constructed before 1950 and is heavily used by large public audiences, it falls under phase 2 of the statutory structural safety assessment.

The structure consists of original masonry walls, timber truss frames and concrete floors added during various renovations. The rear section of the stage area is made of steel and features concrete flooring. The complexity of the structure, combined with the integration of historic and modern components, required a careful and considered approach. Iv conducted technical inspections and analysed the construction dossier, focusing on the critical structural elements.

Iv makes managing structural safety more straightforward and transparent, especially in complex situations. Through thorough assessments and in-depth analysis, we ensure that structures can be used and maintained safely. In doing so, we directly contribute to creating a safe living environment, helping to prevent risks to people, the surroundings, and operational continuity.
