Food-grade conversion

Food-grade conversion

The project

How do you transform an existing facility into a future-ready factory? A food industry producer was working on converting their existing starch production unit into a modern food-grade facility. One that is capable of producing sustainable, high-quality Claria Clean Label® starches. Iv provided FEL-2 engineering for this project: from 3D scanning and design to technical consultancy on sustainability and reuse.

The challenge

The installation dates back to 2003 and was originally intended for industrial applications. To make it suitable for food production, each component had to be assessed for food safety, quality, energy consumption, and ease of maintenance. The planned increase in capacity also imposed demands on the design and reusability of equipment. The key challenge was to strike the right balance between reuse, replacement, and technical modification, all within defined sustainability and cost targets.

The impact

We mapped the entire installation, assessed which components were suitable for food-grade production, and developed a practical technical design. Our engineering enables more efficient and sustainable production, without compromising on flexibility. Thanks to our cost estimates and supporting analysis, the next phase is well-prepared.
