Innovative CO₂ capture installation

CO₂ capture installation

The project

For the British start-up Cool Planet Technologies (CPT), Iv is providing the detailed engineering for an innovative installation that captures CO₂ from industrial flue gases and converts it into a usable raw material. The installation uses advanced membrane technology and is being implemented at a cement plant in Germany. Iv is responsible for the full design and project management of this modular, containerised system, built for maximum portability and flexibility.

The challenge

The installation is being integrated into an existing factory site, and the entire system is skid-mounted: modular, container-based and relocatable. This imposes high demands on the engineering. Piping, systems and connections must be fitted with millimetre precision, without compromising on functionality or safety. Iv scanned the site using a 3D laser scanner and is executing the detailed engineering based on this model. The pace is fast: within just four months of starting, 90% of the model review was already completed.

The impact

Thanks to CPT’s new membrane technology, CO₂ can be captured in an energy-efficient and cost-effective way and purified to 99%, a level of purity essential for commercial reuse in sectors such as chemicals and food production. While the current unit captures 10,000 tonnes per year, the next step is clear: a full-scale industrial installation with a capture capacity of one million tonnes annually. In doing so, Iv is making a concrete contribution to large-scale CO₂ reduction and accelerating the energy transition.
