The Turtle Prop® Thruster is a patented new form of propulsion for the shipping industry. The invention addresses two major trends: electrification and sustainability. According to theoretical calculations, the propulsion system is up to 60% more powerful, 50% more efficient and reduces harmful emissions such as NOx by approximately 40%. The inventor, TURTLE PROP, had a proof of concept, and Iv is helping to take the next step towards a technically sound prototype that can be properly tested and implemented.
The biggest challenge was translating an innovative but still theoretical concept into a feasible and robust design. The prototype must not only function, but also be testable, manufacturable and durable. This requires thorough engineering: models, drawings and supporting documentation that go beyond a proof of concept. Furthermore, collaboration between different areas of expertise was essential to ensure that all aspects, from performance to service life, were properly taken into account.
Iv is taking the concept to the next stage by developing a prototype that can actually be built and tested. We have put together a multidisciplinary project team. Iv is responsible for the engineering work, whilst VDL is handling the construction of the prototype. Through this project, we are making a tangible contribution to cleaner and more efficient shipping.
