HNLMS Rotterdam is the Royal Netherlands Navy’s first amphibious transport vessel (a Landing Platform Dock). Its primary purpose is to support amphibious operations in coastal areas. After twenty years of active service, various mission systems needed upgrading or complete replacement.
The replacement of the various SEWACO (Sensors, Weapons and Communications) systems and a complete overhaul of the command centre from which amphibious operations are conducted are included in the maintenance and upkeep programme to bring the vessel up to date with the latest technology. Nevesbu was responsible for the engineering of the integration of the new SEWACO equipment into the vessel and provided a detailed design for the modification of the two masts to allow for the installation of new antennas.
On behalf of and in close collaboration with Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam, Nevesbu carried out the integration engineering for this part of the upkeep programme of the Defence Materiel Organisation, part of the Royal Netherlands Navy. Now that the programme has been completed, HNLMS Rotterdam is again in optimal condition to begin the second half of her operational service.
