The severe labour shortage presents major challenges for the business world. Recruiting new personnel is particularly difficult in the technical sector, where Iv is positioned. But, retaining and engaging existing staff also remains a challenge. To strengthen the bond between Iv and colleagues, Iv organises many different activities. Attending the European and World Cup Football Championships is a prime example. Iv will be there again this year. On 15 June, more than 200 employees will head for Hamburg to cheer the Dutch team to victory on Sunday, 16 June. The Dutch national team will play its first match at the European Championship against Poland in the historic Volksparkstadion. It will be the 15th match Iv has attended at a European Championship or World Cup.
In the spring of 1988, a small group of Iv colleagues attended a match at the European Football Championship in Germany. It was a historic day. Not only because, in the pre-TomTom era, finding the entrance to the Düsseldorf stadium was a challenge, but also because Marco van Basten scored a hat trick against England. It was partly thanks to this victory that the Dutch reached the semi-finals, where the Netherlands (finally) won against West Germany. Yes, in Hamburg.
Iv returns more than a quarter of a century later, this time not with a mere handful but more than 200 enthusiastic football fans. In the meantime, we saw the Netherlands defeat Belgium in the United States (1994), witnessed a blood-curdling match against Chile in Brazil, and even attended tournaments when the Netherlands were not participating, such as France (2016) and Russia (2018). It is safe to say that attending the European Football Championships and World Cups has become a true Iv tradition. And it’s not just about the football. We marvelled at the starry sky in the Kruger National Park, watched the setting sun on the Copacabana and experienced many other unforgettable moments. These are moments that our colleagues still look back on with great fondness.
