The benefits of converting offshore wind energy into hydrogen gas include more straightforward and more cost-effective transport and storage of electricity. Iv has, therefore, designed a 500 MW platform capable of producing 85 kilotonnes of hydrogen per year.
The scope includes process design, electrolysis system integration, Balance of Plant (BoP) and platform design. This green alternative can produce enough hydrogen in a day to power more than 300,000 hydrogen cars for 100 kilometres. As the distance between offshore wind farms and the coast increases, the challenge lies in efficiently bringing renewable energy ashore. Traditional methods of transporting electricity suffer from peak load limitations. Therefore, innovative solutions are needed to integrate green energy into sustainable systems.
The offshore hydrogen production platform is an essential step towards a sustainable energy transition. It maximises the potential of offshore wind energy, improves energy storage and transport, and helps reduce the environmental footprint. This innovative approach is a major step towards integrating green energy at sea and contributes to the pursuit of sustainability and a cleaner future.
