Pleasant, safe, and easily accessible: The centre of Amsterdam will receive a magnificent new entrance. With more water, fewer cars and more space for pedestrians and cyclists. The city side of Amsterdam Central Station is being completely renovated across the entire width of the island where the station is situated. Iv is responsible for the overall design coordination and the design of the ground level, the underground bicycle parking facility, the quay structures, the bridges, and the tram system.
With its busy and dynamic environment, the ‘De Entree’ project in the heart of Amsterdam presents a challenge for integral design due to the numerous interfaces between disciplines and stakeholders. Making maximum use of the available space, while enabling daily life to continue in the busiest part of the city, requires precision and control. Iv opted for a ‘fool-proof’ design with proven solutions. The entire project, including the underground bicycle parking facility, was designed in 3D and ‘virtually built’ in a 4D BIM model to avoid clashes. Intensive collaboration with multiple parties and a Requirements Clash Analysis ensures the effective management of the many interfaces.
The integral design of ‘De Entree’ delivers a social impact through the improvement of infrastructure, such as the renewal of the tram and metro infrastructure, the underground bicycle parking facility for 7000 bicycles and the optimisation of the Prins Hendrikkade. The improvements improve flow and mobility for the 300,000 people passing through the busy area daily.
