To reduce noise pollution on for communities surrounding Eindhoven Air Base, the Dutch Ministry of Defence is developing a Ground Run-up Enclosure (GRE): an acoustically insulated test facility for running and testing aircraft engines. Commissioned by the Central Government Real Estate Agency, Iv has been involved from the tender phase onwards as part of an integrated project team responsible for the design and delivery of this unique facility.
The greatest challenge lay not only in the technical complexity of the project, but also in the exceptionally short programme and the interdependencies between the various disciplines. A permit-ready design had to be completed within ten weeks, followed by just six weeks for the detailed design phase. At the same time, all sub-designs were being developed in parallel, meaning that changes in one discipline immediately affected multiple other aspects of the project.
The result is a reliable, efficient and buildable design for a modern test facility that fully meets the requirements of both the Dutch Ministry of Defence and the Central Government Real Estate Agency. The GRE enables aircraft engines to be tested safely and under controlled conditions, while the high acoustic walls and carefully engineered airflow management ensure that noise emissions remain within permitted limits. As a result, the project contributes not only to a safe and future-proof working environment for Defence personnel, but also to an improved living environment for local residents.
Over the years, we have built up an impressive track record of projects in the buildings sector.
