The existing Hoekse Lijn train line has been converted into a metro line between Schiedam and Hoek van Holland. The conversion of the Hoekse Lijn is one of the largest investments to improve public transport in the area. The aim is to upgrade the infrastructure, the stops and the accessibility of the stations to a higher level of comfort, safety and efficiency.
The project involved the replacement of five existing stations and the renovation of three others. The aim was to make the stations fit for modern travellers by improving accessibility, safety, and aesthetics. Installations will be integrated to be both functional and visually appealing. New power connections, lighting and air conditioning systems will be installed, and stations will be equipped with cameras, evening lighting, lifts, ramps and tactile guidance for the blind. Dynamic information boards and shelters will also be implemented to improve comfort for waiting passengers.
The modernisation of the Hoekse Lijn aims to improve public transport in the Rijnmond region by creating a modern light rail link. The project positively impacts accessibility and provides a more sustainable and efficient transport option. The modernisation of the station infrastructure contributes to the improvement of mobility and the development of the region.
