The KRI Usman-Harun is one of Indonesia’s Bung Tomo-class multirole light frigates. The frigate is almost twenty years old but has only been in active service with Indonesia for about six years. The frigate will undergo a complete modernisation of all mission systems as the mission systems are outdated.
PT Len Industri (the main contractor and system integrator for this mid-life modernisation programme) has contracted Nevesbu to integrate the platform systems. As Platform Systems Integrator, Nevesbu is responsible for all engineering required to integrate state-of-the-art mission systems into the frigate. Nevesbu will design or modify the vessel’s structures, platform utility systems, foundations, cable routes and space arrangements as required. Nevesbu conducted an extensive onboard survey of the vessel in Indonesia at the start of the project. With little as-built information about the frigate, Nevesbu determined the current situation on board using a 3D laser scanner. The output of the 3D laser scanner is a point cloud of the frigate’s layout, which can be imported into Nevesbu’s 3D modelling software.
With the 3D laser scanner output, Nevesbu can pinpoint the exact location of the systems that need replacing and identify the adjustments that need to be made to the vessel to allow for the integration of the new systems. The modernisation will ensure that the latest developments in combat management and sensors are installed to fulfil the vessel’s mission profile with optimum performance at sea and a significant life extension.
