At the start of the project, Sofia Offshore Wind Farm was one of the largest wind farms in Europe. Iv was commissioned by Sembcorp Marine Offshore Platforms Ltd (SMOP) of Singapore to prepare the detailed design of the topside (the platform) and the jacket (the foundation). In addition, Iv has another vital role to play, namely the procurement of all the platform’s supporting installations.
The realisation of the Sofia Offshore Wind Farm is a challenge due to its scale and technical complexity. The project should not only generate sustainable energy but also enable efficient and reliable energy transmission. Iv is a key engineering partner for SMOP, leading the detailed design of the topside and jacket of the innovative HVDC platform. Iv is also responsible for integrating the platform systems and coordinating the procurement of all necessary equipment. Iv’s technical expertise is also being used in discussions with stakeholders such as RWE Renewables and GE.
The Sofia Offshore Wind Farm project will have a significant impact on the supply of sustainable energy. With a total capacity of 1.4 gigawatts, it can supply an estimated 1.2 million UK households with sustainable energy. Iv’s HVDC platform and detailed engineering will optimise energy production and contribute to the transition to a sustainable energy future.
