New homes are being built on the Arkelsedijk in the Lingewijk in Gorinchem. To make these properties easily accessible, a new link road for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians will be built, including a bridge spanning approximately 70 metres. This bridge will play an important role in providing access to the neighbourhood and improving road safety and cycling links. Iv was commissioned to conduct a variant study and actively involve stakeholders in the process.
Iv’s task was to balance technical feasibility, cost, road safety, sustainability and environmental impact. An additional challenge was to gain the support of various stakeholders such as local residents, Schuttevaer, the District Water Control Board, committees and neighbourhood panels to ensure the chosen solution was widely supported.
Iv developed 15 variants for the new bridge, of which five were further developed following input from stakeholders. The result is a well-founded sketch design that meets the needs of mobility, safety and sustainability and provides better access to the new residential area. The realisation of the new bridge positively impacts the existing infrastructure and accessibility and enhances the area’s appearance.
Wouter, managing director Infra and also COO of Iv, would be delighted to discuss this with you! Get in touch via +31 88 943 3200 or send a message.
