Iv, in close collaboration with the municipality of Bergeijk, has developed ‘Fietsambitie Bergeijk’, an initiative by the municipality of Bergeijk to become the cycling municipality of Brabant. Our role was to identify the current cycle network’s bottlenecks and conduct a variant study for the six primary connections. We determined the best option for each link in terms of safety, comfort and direct connectivity. The feasibility of the options was also assessed in relation to cost, process and support. It was then determined which links had the greatest cycling potential and would contribute most to improving cyclists’ safety and comfort. Iv then developed three connections in a civil engineering design accompanied by a cost estimate.
The challenge was identifying the missing links in Bergeijk’s cycling infrastructure and selecting appropriate solutions. Factors such as safety, comfort, feasibility and support from the local community played a crucial role.
With the ‘Fietsambitie Bergeijk’ initiative, Iv has contributed to strengthening Bergeijk as a cycling community. By identifying bottlenecks and studying alternatives for the primary connections, appropriate solutions have improved mobility, quality of life and safety in Bergeijk. This has not only had a positive impact on the local community but has also promoted sustainability and health.
