Iv wrapped 2024

What a year!

2024 was a year full of memorable moments for Iv. We celebrated our 75th anniversary, won the Cobouw50 Award for the best performing engineering company in the Netherlands, travelled to the European Championships in Hamburg with a large group of colleagues, and worked on fantastic projects! But that was not all: so much more happened.

75 years of Iv: a magical anniversary celebration

This year marked the 75th anniversary of Iv. We celebrated this milestone in style in the beautiful Beurs van Berlage. It was a moment to reflect on the rich history of Iv, which began on 1 September 1949. What started as a small office in an attic room has now become a vibrant and leading engineering company undertaking the most challenging projects worldwide. Projects that genuinely benefit society. Here’s to the next 75 years!

The unforgettable European Championship trip to Hamburg

We enjoyed a fabulous trip to Hamburg with 200 colleagues in June to watch the Netherlands play Poland at the Volksparkstadion and experience the fantastic patriotic ‘orange’ atmosphere. After a cheerful welcome party, we explored the city by boat, bike, or on foot. We ended the evening in a large beer hall, where the Iv party kicked off with Schlager hits, singalongs, schnitzels and beer steins 🍻. The Polish football fans also joined us for the fun. On Sunday morning, we gathered again for a talk show with ex-professional footballer Ronald de Boer, among other guests, as a warm-up for the Netherlands vs Poland match. After that, it was time for the match at Volksparkstadion! After a thrilling match in which the Netherlands triumphed over Poland, we celebrated until the early hours.

Iv named the best-performing engineering consultancy of 2024

This year, Iv won the very first Cobouw50 Award Ingenieur, awarded by Cobouw and PwC. This prestigious recognition means Iv is officially the best-performing engineering company of 2024! We are incredibly proud of this award, and it motivates us to continue doing what we love, together with our colleagues and partners: engineering that excites.

"Financial figures are important, but they’re not our only driving force. We aim to contribute to the major challenges of our time, such as the energy transition. That’s something we can truly be proud of."

A new brand name

A single unified Iv

Since 2024, we have operated under a single brand name: Iv. But why this change?

Iv is exceptionally diverse in knowledge and expertise, which leverages its ability to devise feasible solutions for the most complex issues. The increasing complexity of challenges in our society, such as the energy transition, climate issues and clean drinking water, requires new knowledge and insights. These challenges can only be met by combining expertise from different markets, working in close collaboration, and not allowing existing technology to limit innovation. This is what Iv does. It is, therefore, only logical to present what we can offer our clients and society through a single, unified Iv.

Successes in the energy transition

2024 was an impressive, busy and special year in the offshore world. With milestones such as the completion of the Sofia platform, the successful test phase of PosHYdon and the ‘first steel cut’ of the 2 GW platform for TenneT. We turned the main deck of Jasmund at Smulders and performed the first deck lift.

But that’s not all. In 2024, we signed the contract for the Princess Elisabeth Island (MOG-2), the world’s first artificial energy island. In addition, the HC1100 completed its first job, and we worked on the largest floating solar platform. Our impact on the energy transition is significant.

Did you know that over a quarter of the offshore platforms in the EU were designed by Iv?

Our milestones in water, climate, and structures

This year, we made great strides in the areas of climate adaptation, water safety, land development and ensuring clean drinking water. We have also made progress in designing structures and getting to grips with the structural safety of existing structures.

One of the most significant milestones this year was the official opening of the Nieuwe Sluis (New Lock) in Terneuzen, an impressive example of Dutch and Belgian hydraulic engineering. Together with Arcadis, we helped Dunea in its quest to find a new drinking water source. We worked on projects such as recalculating quay walls in Amsterdam and a complex flood lock in Zierikzee. We shared our expertise on the R&R task via the Ivent Masterclass and the Cobouw podcast Doorzagen.

Big steps towards a future-proof industry

This year, we made great progress in making the industrial sector more sustainable. For example, we contributed to PALLAS, a new medical isotope reactor, helped VTTI develop a bioenergy facility, and improved energy efficiency at Olam Food Ingredients. We also helped Tata Steel in its sustainability process, for which the contract has been extended until 2027. An important milestone in a partnership that dates back to 1949. We designed new container cranes for BCTN and used smart sensor technology to continuously monitor steel structures to facilitate more efficient maintenance and longer life. Through innovative solutions and collaborations, we are future-proofing the industrial sector!

Sustainable solutions for buildings

Sustainability continues to play a huge role in the construction sector. In fact, the demand for sustainability is increasing. Iv makes an important contribution to the sustainability of buildings by providing innovative, tailor-made advice for various types of buildings. For example, we worked on the sustainable expansion of Eindhoven Airport and Leiden University in the heart of The Hague.

On 1 July 2024, a new legal requirement was introduced for the periodic inspection of structural safety in large public buildings. Iv conducts inspections and assessments for various public facilities, including stadiums, event venues, and sports facilities such as the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

We continue to build a better future by focusing on innovation and sustainability.

Safety and innovation at sea

From submarine and naval vessel projects in Asia to the successful delivery of an advanced offshore patrol vessel, the further development of an innovative floating offshore substation concept and the work related to the upkeep of Dutch submarines. In 2024, Nevesbu, the marine branch of Iv, will have carried out many impressive projects that contribute to ensuring safety and energy security at sea worldwide. 2025 promises to be a special year for Nevesbu, as the company celebrates its 90th anniversary!
